The Eugene Team 2014 traveled from Eugene, Oregon, to Belarus in August to participate in the third annual Provincia Camp for Belarusian teens. The camp objective was to provide life skills training for at risk Belarusian teens in a summer camp setting.

The Eugene team consisted of Mindy Parks, Desi Parks, Ian Johnson, Ryan Compton, Jamie Bamford and Bill Compton.  The team was asked to help train the Belarusian teens in team building and communications.  Another objective of the team was to identify an orphanage or children’s shelter that DCHA could “adopt” by helping to provide staff, a facility, and child care needs in the year to come.

The following are comments from this year’s team members:

“This trip was one of the best experiences of my life. I enjoyed the camaraderie and the closeness of the team, and I loved meeting the saints in Minsk.”  (Jamie Bamford)

“I wish we could have stayed longer at Provincia! All in all, I thought the trip was a success, and I can’t wait to go again next year!”  (Mindy Parks)

“Working with the young people at the Provincia Camp was Awesome!”  (Ryan Compton)

“Thanks a lot for participation in the camp. Personally you, and of course your team, was (sic) important in the camp.  All the children send hello to your group and wait for them again next year.” (Alena Autushka)

This year’s team is already planning to return next year and spend more time at the Provinicia Camp.

The Eugene Team is “Adopting Octoberskya Children’s Shelter” as a project to promote and raise funds to help them with whatever needs they may have.  Nicolai, our contact for the shelter, will keep us informed as to their needs.

The team will be working to provide for the needs of the Octoberskya Children's Shelter in 2014/2015.
